Growing Season Notes | The growing season of 2021 began early with bud break mid-April followed by a warm spring and hot summer. Fruit set at the end of June occurred during unseasonably warm temperatures creating smaller yields. However, the grapes responded favorably to the warm summer producing intense fruit flavors and chalky tannins in all of the red varietals. |

Growing Season Notes | 2020 was a textbook growing season. Bud break in the vineyard in mid-April with gradient temperature increases throughout the growing season. A long Fall harvest enabled the fruit to finish with both flavor and acids. Grapes ripened slowly creating a well balanced fruit forward wine. |

Growing Season Notes | Huston Vineyards Malbec, crafted from grapes grown in the Snake River Valley AVA of Southwest Idaho. The Malbec sites for this vintage hale from high elevation vineyards of between 2500 and 3000 ft. Our dry climate and long growing degree days make Malbec an excellent varietal for the Snake River Valley AVA. A cool wet spring delayed the start of the 2019 growing season, pushing bud break into mid-April. Summer was idyllic marked by warm days and cool nights and an abundance of sunshine. The weather was without heat spikes that can be so detrimental to the vines. These perfect conditions allowed slow sugar accumulation and excellent acid retention within the clusters. A hard frost that blanketed the Northwest brought the season to a halt in mid-October. With the majority of the fruit already harvested, the remainder just waited on the vine for their turn on the picking schedule. |
